How has IH affected your work and career?
Has it hindered your career growth? Did you choose a career that would feel more IH-friendly? Do you tell your employer about life with IH?
IH knocked me out of the 9-to-5 world, so yes, it had both a limiting and governing affect on my career. Whenever I applied for jobs with traditional work hours, at the moment I had to disclose the IH and the accommodation I needed, 100% of all job offers were withdrawn. Essentially, IH forced me into entrepreneurship. Now, more than 90% of the work I do is online and during hours that I control.
I'm glad you found employment that works for you. Unfortunately, employers can easily skirt discrimination laws during hiring because it's hard to prove why you were passed over. It's maddening, for sure. - Lori (Team Member)
I stopped working in December 2025 as I could no longer stay awake using Modafinil. My autoimmune diseases compound the IH and I have been working with multiple providers in hopes to become functional again.
Other autoimmunine conditions can certainly complicate things, especially since so many of them can also drain you of energy. I hope you find balance soon and that you can return to the workforce again. Thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member) thank you! I am hopeful.
